Good keywords article:
In writing this report I wondered what the best keywords were relating to the topic of finding the best keywords. I used a little program from GoodKeyWords.com
It is a free program that has a lot of features but we will only cover the keyword functions today. Download and install the software. In the software you will see that it searches the Overture.com, OvertureUK.com, Yahoo.com, and Teoma.
These are databases of the terms that people searched for in the past month on the respective engines.
The Overture option gives the most returns but does not distinguish the plurals, so home loan and home loans are returned as home loan. At anyrate this little tool will save your searches let you save the returns to kpad or the copy buffer. You can double click on a keyword in the returns and it will "dig deeper" coming up with more terms.
The downside of a free program like this is that the searches this program queries are heavily influenced by the advertisers searching their keywords. This can throw a keywords popularity results way off. You want to be as "on target" as possible when spending your money on keyword advertising.
Just because an advertiser thinks it is does not really mean that it is the best keyword. You need to know what people are actually searching for. Then you can spend your money secure in the knowledge that the keywords you have found are the best representaiton of what people are really looking for.
To avoid these pitfalls I use a paid service called Wordtracker You may have heard of it. I highly recommend this service. Jump all over this one folks! If your going to spend any money on PPC / Pay Per Click this is the keyword research tool of the pros!
It is more accurate in that it gets it's keyword traffic data from several meta search engines.
These are not influenced buy the artificial inflating advertiser searches inevitably cause. Wordtracker Gives you the PLURAL and even alternate keyword suggestions that will give you real evidence of where to find your most profitable keywords.
Free programs that query keyword search results are good in the clinch. If you can't afford a real keyword research tool right now, GoodKeyWords.com is the way to go.
Take Care,
Tom Willingham
